About Us!

Physician Assistants (PAs) function as Physician Extenders within the realm of modern medicine, operating under physician supervision. Their formal training equips them to offer diagnostic, therapeutic, and preventive healthcare services as delegated by physicians. Operating as integral members of healthcare teams, PAs conduct patient interviews, examinations, and treatments, interpret diagnostic tests, and formulate diagnoses. They also manage minor injuries through suturing, splinting, and casting, maintain progress records, provide patient guidance, and oversee therapeutic procedures.

In certain settings, PAs may assume managerial roles, involving responsibilities like procuring medical supplies, overseeing medical assistants, and supervising medical technicians.

The significance of such programs is particularly pronounced in developing countries. The scarcity of physicians relative to the population in need of care, coupled with the high costs associated with hiring them, often renders it impractical for Ministries of Health to employ an adequate number of physicians to cater to all patients. As a result, the demand for programs that train Physician Assistants remains crucial in addressing these healthcare gaps.

Liberia offers several institutions for those looking to pursue a Physician Assistant (PA) degree. The Tubman National Institute of Medical Art is the only institution in Liberia offering a PA degree, offering an intensive two-year program. Cuttington University also offers a four-year degree program for those looking to become a PA. Additionally, the Baptist Missionary Physician Assistant School provides a comprehensive three-year program for those wishing to pursue a career in the medical field. All of these institutions offer a comprehensive education and hands-on experience that will prepare students to become successful PAs.
